Online games stores and X-rated content

I guess I should end this group of posts on game stores as everyone uses them and its an utter pain.

The consoles

The long and the short of it is that game consoles have the best content control and if you keep within the correct age bracket (or even up to sixteens) such matters won't even be a concern, even 18+s obscure sex scenes as they don't want the headache.

Steam

Steam is far from the worst seller so long as you apply the store preferences to block adult content and ignore the hentai tag but you can still access such content if you search it by name or find it via another games store page in some cases.

When buying visual novels be careful that they aren't 'patchable' that is to say they have been censored but the content can still be downloaded and added to the game via the publishers site. This is a real pain for visual novel fans (on both sides of the divide) and makes them technically non-adult content meaning the adult filter doesn't work in this case.

Whilst not being perfect its the least worst option and it should be noted that adult content is restricted by default.

Epic Games

Whilst a reputable brand, Epic doesn't put restrictions on adult content as default and seems to rely on parental controls rather than filtering (I don't dare put a pin number on my account, I'll lose it) and as such I don't really recommend it.

Itch

Itch is an odd one. As it primarily consists of community made games it doesn't have hard and fast protection as a creator of a conventional game may also make x-rated ones or follow such games, so whilst adult protection is on by default, it has the same sort of flaws as steam but worse. That said, it is a community of developers and not as well developed (contradictory I know) and as it also has a lot of free games on it, with parental guidance if needed, this site is still worth the effort.
